3369. Margaret FLOWERS was born on 11 May 1919 in Catawba County, North Carolina. She died on 23 October 2010 at the age of 91 in Catawba Valley Medical Center, Hickory, Catawba County, North Carolina. She was buried in Catawba Memorial Park, Hickory, Catawba County, NC. Her obituary appeared as follows: HICKORY - Margaret Flowers Cline, 91, of Hickory, passed away Oct. 23, 2010, at Catawba Valley Medical Center. Born May 11, 1919, in Catawba County, she was the daughter of the late Edgar Lee and Olive Deal Flowers. Mrs. Cline was part of Lenoir-Rhyne College's faculty/staff as circulation librarian and was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church for more than 70 years. She graduated from Lenoir-Rhyne College cum laude in 1968 with a degree in Christian education and completed a master's degree in library science at UNC-Chapel Hill. Mrs. Cline was known for her kind heart, strong faith and her homemade butter mints. She was an avid swimmer, den mother to local Scouts, and lived an exemplary life of hospitality and generosity of spirit to others. Above all, she loved and cherished her family. Mrs. Cline served as president and board member of the Catawba Valley Executives Club, president of Lenoir-Rhyne College Women's Club, educational director of WNC District of Lutheran Church Women, former member of the Hickory Service League, and worked in various capacities with the Hickory Art Museum, Western Piedmont Symphony, Hickory Community Concert Association and Hickory Community Theatre. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Vernon Cline Jr.; brothers, Cloyd "Jack" Flowers and Harold Lee Flowers; sisters, Helen Flowers Tilson and Virginia Flowers Hart; brother-in-law, Robert E. Cline; and a special friend, Dr. Sam Isenhower. She is survived by her five children, son, Carl Vernon Cline III and wife, Sharon, of Newton; daughters, Kathryn Cline Johnson and husband, Woody, of Atlanta, Alice Cline Rullman and husband, Andrew, of Hickory, Jane Cline Wellford and husband, Randy, of Burlington, and Anne Cline Brock of Hickory; sister, Hilda Flowers Brittain of Hickory; sisters-in-law, Doris Flowers of Chesterfield, Mo., Nancy Cline Shuford of Hickory, and Martha Cline Cobb of Haymarket, Va.; grandchildren, Andrew Cline and wife, Lauren, of Manchester, N.H., Timothy Cline of Gastonia, Hunter Johnson and wife, Joan, of Lancaster, Pa., Barrett Johnson and wife, Anna, of West End, Chris Johnson and wife, Amy, of Skippack, Pa., John A. McCurdy III of Cornelius, Elizabeth McCurdy Hueman, MD, and husband, Kevin Hueman, MD, of Fayetteville, Eric Wellford of Albuquerque, N.M., Whitney Wellford of Charlotte, Daniel Brock of Upland, Calif., and Sam Brock of James Island, S.C.; 11 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews A memorial service celebrating the life of Margaret Cline will be held at 3:30 p.m. today at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, officiated by the Rev. Dr. Robert Shoffner. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3:15 p.m. at Holy Trinity before the service. A private family burial will be held in Catawba Memorial Park earlier in the day.
