3870. John David CLINE2 was born on 6 March 1924 in Alexander County, North Carolina. He died on 23 February 2012 at the age of 87 in John F Keever Solace Center, Asheville, NC. His obituary appeared as follows: John David Cline, age 87 of 1591 Church Rd., Taylorsville, passed away Thursday February 23, 2012 at John F Keever Solace Center in Asheville, after an extended illness. He was born March 6, 1924 in Alexander County to the late George Roscoe Cline and Minnie Mays Cline. Mr. Cline served in the US Marine Corp. where he received the bronze star and saw the historic February 23, 1945, raising the flag of the United States atop Mount Suribachi during the Battle of Iwo Jima in World War II, and died on the anniversary of. He was a retired farmer. He was also member of St Luke Lutheran Church. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lilly Bowers Cline; two brothers, William Cline and Jimmy Cline; two sisters, Ruby Helton and Mary Reese. He is survived by one daughter, Beverly Ann Mecimore; one brother, Clay Cline; one sister, Sybil Cline Sipe all of Taylorsville; one grandchild, Tasha Rector also of Taylorsville; four great grandchildren, Tiffany Rector, Kristy Rector, Haley Rector and Derrick Rector. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00pm Sunday February 26, 2012 at St Luke Lutheran Church. Rev. Andrew Miller will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Military rites will be provided by the VFW Hiddenite post 10000 and Taylorsville post 5466. The family will receive friends from 2:00-3:00pm Sunday prior to the funeral hour at the church.
