Born Oct. 1, 1934, in Catawba County, he was the son of the late Roscoe Alexander Hefner and the late Bertie Starnes Hefner. He was a member of Harmony Baptist Church in Conover. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, John and Wade Hefner and Ed and A.L. Starnes, and two sisters, Earlene Hollar and Catherine Reitzel. He is survived by his wife, Edith M. Hefner of the home; two sons, Steve Hefner and wife, Theresa, and Mike Hefner of Conover; daughter, Lynn H. Cloer and husband, Phil, of Newton; three brothers, Alvin, Jake and Bobby Hefner; two sisters, Charlotte Canipe and Shirley Hefner; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 3, 2007, at Tri-City Baptist Church in Conover, with the Revs. Arthur Mason and Bobby Langston officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in Oxford Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 tonight, Friday, at Burke Mortuary in Newton. Memorials may be made to Harmony Baptist Church, 4477 C&B Farm Road, Conover, N.C. 28613.
