3529. Alma SMYRE was born about 1914 in Catawba County, North Carolina. She died on 21 May 2007 at the age of 93 in Athens Regional Medical Center, Athens, Tennessee. She was buried in McMinn Memory Gardens, Athens, TN. Her obituary appeared as follows: ATHENS, Tenn. - Alma Smyre Beam, 93, of Athens, died Monday afternoon, May 21, 2007, at Athens Regional Medical Center. She was a native of Hickory, N.C., and a daughter of the late Otis and Claudia Huffman Smyre. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Henry D. Beam on Jan. 14, 1992; two grandchildren, Jackson Wells and Kathy Beam; six sisters; and two brothers. She was a member of Keith Memorial United Methodist Church and the Home Service Sunday school class. She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Mary Joe Wells of Tucson, Ariz., and Judy Beam and Ralph Hobbs of Athens; three sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry D. and Peggy Beam of Conover, N.C., Charles and Nancy Beam of Dayton, Tenn., and Lynn and Terri Beam of Savannah, Ga.; 13 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. The funeral service will be conducted by the Rev. Mike Hubble, the Rev. Jason Gattis and Bob Watts at 11 a.m. today, Wednesday, at Keith Memorial United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in McMinn Memory Gardens. Active pallbearers will be grandsons and great-grandsons. The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. today at the church. The family suggests memorials be made to a favorite library of the giver's choice. Jerry Smith Funeral Home is serving the family of Alma Smyre Beam.
