HICKORY - Edward Leo Evans, 80, of Fourth Avenue, SW, Hildebran, died Sunday, Oct. 2, 2005, at Palliative CareCenter and Hospice of Catawba Valley after two years of declining health.
Born 10 May 1925, in Burke County, he was a son of the late Frank and Fannie Huffman Evans.
A member of Bible Baptist Church, he retired from Drexel Heritage Furniture.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Blonnie Barger and Sallie Massagee; and three brothers, James, Bill and Earl Evans.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Spencer Evans of the home; a daughter, Brenda Carol Lail and husband, Ronnie, of Conover; two sons, Richard Evans and wife, Pat, of George Hildebran and David Evans and wife, Wanda of Hildebran; five granddaughters, Tina Phillips of Granite Falls, Ramona Crosby of Valdese, Sherry Harrill of Claremont, Bridgett Evans of George Hildebran and Chanel Owensby of Hickory; five grandsons, Edward Evans of Granite Falls, William Lail of Claremont, David Chad Evans of Hildebran, Dillon Evans of George Hildebran and Wayne Lail of Vale; and 18 great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be conducted by the Rev. Greg Simpson at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Bible Baptist Church.
The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service.
Burial will be in Catawba Memorial Park.
The family will e at Hickory Funeral Home from 6:30 to 8 tonight.
