2001. Elvie Ella SPENCER was born on 4 January 1929 in Alexander County, North Carolina.534 She died on 18 April 2012 at the age of 83 in Frye Regional Medical Center, Hickory, Catawba County, NC. Her obituary appeared as follows: HICKORY Elvie Spencer Bean, 82, of Hickory, passed away Wednesday, April 18, 2012, at Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory. Born June 4, 1929, in Alexander County, she was the daughter of the late Pinkney Eli Spencer and Florence Ollie Hall. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ned John Bean, one sister and eight brothers. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Hickory where she was involved with a circle group and volunteered in other activities as well. Elvie was a loving wife, friend, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family but especially with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was the former owner of Cox Manufacturing Co. and an avid gardener. She was also very involved with the Altrussa Club and Habitat for Humanity Store for many years. She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Bean Fox-Ebert of Hickory; grandchildren, John Eli Fox of Hickory, Mark Spencer Fox of Hickory, Candace Fox Edmondson of Marion and Cynthia Fox Lail of Hickory; sister, Catherine "Cat" Spencer Bright of Hickory; special niece, Renee Bright-Miller of Charlotte; and ten great-grandchildren. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 20, at First United Methodist Church in Hickory with the Revs. Bob Roach and Rick Schilling officiating. Burial will follow in the cemetery at Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church in Bethlehem. The family will receive friends this evening, April 19, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bass-Smith Funeral Home in Hickory. Pallbearers will be Paul Bright, Jr., Jeff Eddins, John Eddins, Harrison Fahrer, Rick Fahrer and Ricky Rawls. HICKORY - Mr. Ned John Bean, 80, of Hickory, died Jan. 27, 2006, at his residence, unexpectedly, surrounded by his family.
He was born Jan. 17, 1926, in Caldwell County to the late Harley and Maude Bean Woods.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Bean was preceded in death by a sister, Catherine Teague.
Ned worked and retired with Burlington Industries after 39 years of service in management. He later retired from Valdese Weavers.
He was very active in his community and belonged to the Ruritan Club and helped with Boy Scouts. He was a member of the Board of Education of Caldwell County Schools. His passions were baseball and his family. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Hickory.
He was a friend to everyone he met. He will be greatly missed.
Ned is survived by his wife, Elvie Spencer Bean; a daughter, Beth Bean Fox of Hickory; a special niece, Rene Bright Miller of Fort Mills, S.C.; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Phyllis and Gary Minton of Sawmills, Mary and Jay Wyike of Granite Falls and Glena Combs of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Dean and Becky Woods and Joe and Betty Woods of Hickory and Jimmy and Janelle Woods of Florence, S.C.; two grandsons and a granddaughter-in-law, Mark and Jamie Fox and John Fox of Hickory; two granddaughters, Cynthia and Kevin Gayer of San Antonio, Texas, and Candace Ford of Hickory; and three great-grandchildren, Nathaniel Fox, Sarah Fox and Ella Gayer.
The funeral service will be conducted by the Rev. Earlynne Bartley at 2 p.m. Sunday at First United Methodist Church.
Interment will follow in Mount Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Paul Bright Sr., Jeff Eddins, Paul Bright Jr., Ken Barnette, John Eddins and Gary Minton.
The family will be at the church one hour prior to the service and at the residence of 2060 Second St. Drive, NW, Hickory, at other times.
