BETHLEHEM - Lucy May Spencer Wilkie, 87, of Bethlehem, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2007, at Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory. She was born May 22, 1920, in Alexander County to Sidney Manuel Spencer and Ethel Bowman Spencer. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fred David Wilkie; one son-in-law, Tommy Hefner; four sisters and one infant sister, Allie Spencer, Kendola Eckerd, Mary Lee Heavner and Fannie Richey Spencer; and two brothers, Coy and Cromer Spencer. Lucy was a member of Fellowship Advent Christian Church. She worked as a cloth cutter and in the cafeteria at Clayton-Marcus for a number of years. She was known affectionately as "Ma" to one and all. Loved ones left to cherish her memory include one daughter, Lucille Hefner of Bethlehem; two grandchildren, Gordon Hefner and wife, Jennifer, of Taylorsville and Kim Brock and husband, Ed, of Rock Hill, S.C.; a special friend, Fred Lackey of Taylorsville; special caregivers, Jessie Coffey, Gladys Lail, Margaret Richey, Susie Killian and Patsy Sigmon; three sisters, Margaret Richey of Taylorsville and Shirley Raby and Rachel Houston, both of Hickory; one brother, Sidney "Bud" M. Spencer Jr. of Palatka, Fla.; along with a number of nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. today, Thursday, Sept. 6, 2007, in Fellowship Advent Christian Church Cemetery. The body will be placed in the church from 2 to 3 p.m. today. The family will receive friends following the service. Memorials may be given to Fellowship Advent Christian Church, 885 Icard Ridge Road, Taylorsville, N.C. 28681. Funeral arrangements provided by Alexander Funeral Service of Taylorsville.
