3329. Vertie Louetta SIGMON was born on 29 October 1914 in Catawba County, North Carolina. She died on 18 July 2008 at the age of 93 in Catawba Valley Medical Center, Hickory, Catawba County, North Carolina. She was buried in Catawba Memorial Park, Hickory, Catawba County, NC. Her obituary appeared as follows: HICKORY - Vertie Louetta Sigmon Hendrix (Nana), 93, passed away Friday, July 18, 2008, at Catawba Valley Medical Center after a brief illness. Vertie was born Oct. 29, 1914, in Catawba County. She was the daughter of the late Obe Vance Sigmon and Essie Lail Sigmon. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Virgil Monroe Hendrix; two grandsons, Harold David and Jerald Stephen Hendrix; one great-grandson, Joshua Dean Ivester; and three brothers, Hubert, Ruell and Paul Sigmon. Vertie is survived by two sons, Joel B. Hendrix and wife, Patsy, of Hickory and Harold M. Hendrix and wife, Tommie, of Belmont; two daughters, Kay Bolick and Judy Cooper of Hickory; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and three stepgrandchildren. Vertie was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church for more than 75 years. She was a housewife, mother and grandmother. She was very active in the church choir, Women of the Auxiliary of Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary and as a member of The Altar Guild. Vertie was a member of "The Hand and Foot Card Club" at C.O.A. and Westmont. She loved to play cards and always beat her two daughters. Vertie was Nana to everyone, and loved by all. The funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 22, 2008, at Bethany Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Dan Duke officiating. Burial will follow in Catawba Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 22, 2008, at Bethany Lutheran Church. Serving as pallbearers will be grandsons and great-grandsons, Chad Bolick, Scott and Terry Hendrix, Dean Ivester Jr. and Jody and Jeremy Gibson. Harold Monroe HENDRIX was born on 1 December 1934 in Hickory, Catawba County, North Carolina. He/she died on 20 November 2012 at the age of 77 in Gaston Memorial Hospital, Gastonia, Gaston County, North Carolina. He/she was buried in Greenwood Cemetery, Belmont, Gaston County, North Carolina. A native of Hickory, he was the son of the late Virgil and Vertie Sigmon Hendrix. He was a courier for Davis Delivery. The family will receive friends from 12 to 12:45 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 24, at McLean Funeral Directors of Belmont. A graveside service will follow at 1 p.m., at Greenwood Cemetery, with Deacon Jack Weisenhorn officiating. Survivors include his wife, Tommy Long Hendrix; son, Harold "Scott" Hendrix and wife, Nancy, of Shelby; daughters, Connie Pittman, of Texas and Sherrie Mullis and husband, Eric, of Stanley; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and sisters, Kay Bolick and Judy Cooper, both of Hickory. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sons, Gerald David Hendrix, Harold Stephen Hendrix, and Terry Lee Hendrix; grandson, Joshua Ivester; and brother, Joel Hendrix.
