Her obituary appeared as follows: SIGMON, Pearl Yvonne HICKORY - Pearl Yvonne Sigmon Hedrick, 75, of Conover, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2010, at Palliative CareCenter and Hospice of Catawba Valley. Born June 7, 1935, in Catawba County, she was the daughter of the late Caswell and Maudie Dagenhart Sigmon. Mrs. Hedrick was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church and was a nurse for 35 years, and was retired from Frye Regional Medical Center. Always pristinely dressed in her nursing "whites" and cap, Pearl was the epitome of a devoted nurse, as nursing was her legacy. Her hobbies included flower gardening, traveling. She loved life, new adventures, and was especially fond of family times. She cherished her pets. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Marshall E. "Junior" Hedrick Jr.; three brothers, Roy Sigmon, Johnny Sigmon, Freeman Sigmon; six sisters, Mary S. Martin, Frances S. Vinay, Ruth S. Baumgarner, Martha S. Cline, Hazel S. Williams and Sadie Sigmon. Mrs. Hedrick is survived by her daughter, Susan Denise Hedrick Johnson and husband, Greg, of Taylorsville; a sister, Gladys S. Carter of Hickory; five sisters-in-law, Linda Sigmon, Pat Sigmon, Betty Hedrick, Catherine Fox and husband, Clyde, all of Hickory, Willie Eckard and husband, Rhen, of Taylorsville; a brother-in-law, Richard Hedrick and wife, Ruby, of Hickory; and numerous nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 31, 2010, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Paul Birner and the Rev. Delbert Roth officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
