Her obituary appeared as follows: CONOVER - Roxanna Lail Sigmon, 87, of Conover, died Monday, Jan. 5, 2009, at Palliative CareCenter & Hospice of Catawba Valley. Born Sept. 27, 1921, in Catawba County, she was the daughter of the late O.A. Lail and Hattie Hedrick Lail. She was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Conover. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, James S. Sigmon; son, Arthur James "Jimmy" Sigmon; sisters, Katie Eckerd and Ila Sain; and brothers, Clarence Lail, Gaither Lail, Arthur Lail and Ralph Lail. She is survived by her daughter, Patricia "Pat" Smith and her husband, Gary, of Conover; daughter-in-law, Cathy Sigmon of Newton; grandchildren, Deanna Ramsey and her husband, Chris, Todd Smith and his wife, Susan, Jamie Sigmon and Misty Carter and her husband, Kevin; great-grandchildren, Grayson Ramsey, Cole Ramsey and Landyn Carter; sister, Martha Martin of Hickory; special friends, Johnny and Susie Reitzel of Conover; and numerous nieces and nephews. A service of remembrance will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, 2009, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, with the Revs. Paul D. Birner and Matt Schilling officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service, from 1 to 2:45 p.m., at the church. Pallbearers honoring Mrs. Sigmon are Todd Smith, Chris Ramsey, Kevin Carter, Jamie Sigmon, Johnny Reitzel and J.T. Landers. Arthur James "Jim" SIGMON was born on 14 June 1947 in Catawba County, North Carolina. He died on 2 October 2006 at the age of 59 in Navajo County, Arizona. He was buried in Mt. Olive Lutheran Church Cemetery, Newton, North Carolina. His obituary appeared as follows: NEWTON - Arthur James "Jim" Sigmon, 59, of Mount Olive Church Road, Newton, passed away Monday, Oct. 2, 2006, in Navajo County, Ariz. Born June 14, 1947, in Catawba County, he was the son of the late James Stine Sigmon and Roxanna Lail Sigmon. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Mr. Sigmon also was a member of Mount Olive Lutheran Church and the VFW of Newton. He is survived by his wife, Cathy Moose Sigmon of the home; his mother, Roxanna Lail Sigmon of Conover; a son, James Sigmon of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; two daughters, Deanna Ramsey and husband, Chris, of Claremont and Misty Sigmon of the home; a sister, Pat Sigmon Smith of Conover; two grandsons, Grayson and Cole Ramsey; and a nephew, Todd Smith and wife, Susan, of Claremont. The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, 2006, at Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Newton, with the Rev. Ralph Abernethy officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery, with military graveside rites performed by American Legion Post 16, followed by a reading from scripture by the Rev. Lonnie Ramsey. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2:45 p.m. Saturday at the church, prior to the service.
