Born Sept. 27, 1921, in Catawba County, she was the daughter of the late O.A. Lail and Hattie Hedrick Lail. She was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Conover. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, James S. Sigmon; son, Arthur James "Jimmy" Sigmon; sisters, Katie Eckerd and Ila Sain; and brothers, Clarence Lail, Gaither Lail, Arthur Lail and Ralph Lail. She is survived by her daughter, Patricia "Pat" Smith and her husband, Gary, of Conover; daughter-in-law, Cathy Sigmon of Newton; grandchildren, Deanna Ramsey and her husband, Chris, Todd Smith and his wife, Susan, Jamie Sigmon and Misty Carter and her husband, Kevin; great-grandchildren, Grayson Ramsey, Cole Ramsey and Landyn Carter; sister, Martha Martin of Hickory; special friends, Johnny and Susie Reitzel of Conover; and numerous nieces and nephews. A service of remembrance will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, 2009, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, with the Revs. Paul D. Birner and Matt Schilling officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service, from 1 to 2:45 p.m., at the church. Pallbearers honoring Mrs. Sigmon are Todd Smith, Chris Ramsey, Kevin Carter, Jamie Sigmon, Johnny Reitzel and J.T. Landers.
