Karlee Grace BUMGARNER was born on 13 August 2006 in Hickory, Catawba County, North Carolina. She died on 21 December 2008 at the age of 2 in Brenner Children's Hospital, Winston-Salem, NC. She was buried in St. Peter's Lutheran Church cemetery, north of Conover, Catawba County, NC. Her obituary appeared as follows: HICKORY - Karlee Grace Bumgarner, 2, of Hickory, passed away Dec. 21, 2008, at Brenner Children's Hospital in Winston-Salem. Born Aug. 13, 2006, in Hickory, she was the daughter of Thom and Staci Bumgarner. The life of Karlee was one of God's special miracles. Though doctors said she would not survive birth, Karlee proved everyone wrong. She was born with 10 percent of her brain, the brain stem functions which control reflexes such as blinking, heartbeat, etc., and the portion up front that controls personality. According to the tests before Karlee was born, she should have been blind and deaf, but she was neither. God had a special plan for Karlee. Those who met her were given her undivided attention because she loved to look at new faces. She had beautiful blue eyes that shined with acceptance and love. Her beaming smile melted the hardest hearts and her amazing life allowed her family to share with others their faith in a miraculous and loving God. Karlee's therapists became a special part of her life and what she achieved with her limitations further proved she was a special little girl. Karlee was very much loved by her St. Peter's Lutheran Church family and many friends. She had a way of carving out a special place in your heart that was brighter and better for her presence there. Karlee was preceded in death by her grandparents, T.H. and Melita Bumgarner. In addition to her parents, she is survived by her brother, Jordan Correll; sister, Hannah Correll; grandparents, Steve and Jan Sigmon; great-grandmothers, Hazel Sigmon and Rachel Sigmon; maternal aunt and uncle, Emily and Michael Link, and cousins, Carter and Cooper Link, all of Hickory; and paternal aunt and uncle, Suzanne and Billy Lineberger and cousins, Katie and Jacob Lineberger, all of Maiden. The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. today, Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2008, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Conover, with Pastors Paul Birner and Matthew Schilling officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers include Oz Hefner, Bobby Gantt, Bradley Gantt and Steve Rector. Karlee's therapists, Sharon Barlow, Robin West, Susan Barbour, Andie Hampton and Dru Powell will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends prior to the service, from 1 to 3 p.m. today, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church. Memorials may be made to St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Spirit Center, 6175 St. Peter's Church Road, Conover, N.C. 28613. Bass-Smith Funeral Home and Crematory is serving the family of Karlee Grace Bumgarner. The angel choir will never sound sweeter than this Christmas with the addition of our precious Karlee.
