6093. Hazel Helen LAIL was born on 7 November 1920 in Catawba County, North Carolina. She died on 1 February 2009 at the age of 88 in Catawba Valley Medical Center, Hickory, Catawba County, North Carolina. She was buried in St. Peter's Lutheran Church cemetery, north of Conover, Catawba County, NC. Her obituary appeared as follows: HICKORY - Hazel Helen Lail Sigmon, 88, of Hickory, passed to her eternal rest Sunday evening, Feb. 1, 2009, at Catawba Valley Medical Center surrounded by her loving family. After a brave and successful struggle with cancer, she was suddenly called home. Born Nov. 7, 1920, in Catawba County, she was the daughter of the late Clifford Pinkney Lail and Hettie Huffman Lail. Mrs. Sigmon retired from the furniture industry and spent her life working and caring tirelessly for others. Her home-baked goodies, jams and handmade afghans will remain in all our memories. She was a longtime member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Conover, where she was a former choir member, a member of the LWML and the Golden Agers. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving and wonderful husband of 48 years, Dalthard "Jim" Lawrence Sigmon; a sister, Willie Mae Huffman; and a great-granddaughter, Karlee Grace Bumgarner. Loved ones left to cherish her memory are two daughters, Doris Sigmon and husband, Eddie Mal, and Janice Sigmon and husband, Steven W., all of Hickory; one son, Steve Lawrence Sigmon and Patty Thompson of Hickory; one brother, Robert Lail and wife, Jeanette, of Hickory; three sisters, Marie Huffman and husband, Orin, and Margaret Deal and husband, Harold, all of Conover and Ann Propst of Salisbury; grandchildren, Jeanna Sigmon Anderson and husband, Kent, and Mitchell Derek Sigmon and wife, Molly Bass, all of Hickory, Staci Sigmon Bumgarner and husband, Thom, of Conover, Emily Sigmon Link and husband, Michael, of Hickory and Jessica Sigmon Griffin and Sean of Charlotte; great-grandchildren, McKenzie and Morgan Anderson, Jackson and Gettys Sigmon, Jordan and Hannah Correll, Carter and Cooper Link and Kameron Griffin; and a number of nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2009, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, with Pastors Paul Birner and Matthew Schilling officiating. Burial will follow in St. Peter's Lutheran Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:30 to 4 p.m., prior to the service, at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Peter's Lutheran Church, "Spirit Fund," 6175 St. Peter's Church Road, Conover, N.C. 28613.
