Ted HEFNER, son of Floyd McRee HEFNER and Sadie Caroline (?) BARGER, was born on 10 November 1931 in Catawba County, North Carolina. He died after a period of declining health on 28 July 2005 at the age of 73 in Spring Arbor Assisted Living Center, Hickory, North Carolina. He was buried in Bethlehem Lutheran Church Cemetery, Hickory, North Carolina. His obituary appeared as follows: VALDESE - Mr. Ted McRee Hefner, 73, of Hickory, died Thursday, July 28, 2005, at Spring Arbor Assisted Living Center in Hickory after a period of declining health. Mr. Hefner was born Nov. 10, 1931, in Catawba County to the late Floyd McRee and Sadie Barger Hefner. He was an active and faithful member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, serving as church treasurer for 27 years. Ted was a former member of the board of the Fairgrove Fire Department, the Lutheran Men of Mission, a former Boy Scout leader and a life member of the Southern Seminary Auxiliary of the Lutheran Church. He was an avid sportsman, playing several sports including American Legion baseball. Mr. Hefner was the president of Quality Cleaners in Hickory. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Karalles. Surviving are his wife, Myra Bumgarner Hefner of the home; two sons, Gregg Hefner and wife, Lynn, and Dave Hefner and wife, Teri, all of Newton; a sister, Cathy Whittecar and husband, Richard, of Virginia Beach, Va.; and his stepmother, Margie Hefner of Hickory. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Beth and Will Whittecar of Virginia Beach, Va., Hanna Hefner of Rome, Italy, and Ethan, Matthew and Kate Hefner, all of Newton. A Service of Remembrance will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, July 31, 2005, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Timothy Martin officiating. Entombment will follow in the Bethlehem Lutheran Church Columbarium.
