Hayden Leroy SHOOK was born on 7 April 1924 in Catawba County, North Carolina. He died on 19 September 2008 at the age of 84 in Caldwell Hospice & Palliative Care, Granite Falls, Caldwell County, NC. He was buried in Edgemont Baptist Church Cemetery, Edgemont, NC. His obituary appeared as follows: LENOIR - Hayden Leroy Shook, 84, of Collettsville, passed away Friday, Sept. 19, 2008, at Caldwell Hospice & Palliative Care. Mr. Shook was born April 7, 1924, in Catawba County to the late Junius Shook and Essie Bowman Shook. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church in Charlotte and American Legion Post 380. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Hayden Leroy Shook Jr.; his sister, Virginia Turner; and his brother, Earl W. Shook. Survivors include his wife, Dessie Harrison Shook of the home; his son, Jeff L. Shook of Mooresville; his daughters, Melinda S. McElhaney and Martha Jean Shook, both of Charlotte, and Beverly S. Farquhar of Greensboro; his granddaughter, Ledane Leigh Poplin; his great-grandson, Chad Poplin; his brothers, Bruce Shook of Hickory and Charles Shook of Morganton; and his sisters, Sarah Bowman of California and Janice Teague of Hickory. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. tonight, Sunday, Sept. 21, 2008, at Pendry's Funeral Home in Lenoir. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2008, at Pendry's Chapel, with Dr. Steve Butler and the Rev. Danny Wright officiating. Burial will be in Edgemont Baptist Church Cemetery in Edgemont at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2008. The family requests memorials be made to Caldwell Hospice & Palliative Care, 902 Kirkwood St., NW, Lenoir N.C. 28645.
