3128. Fred A. SIMMONS was born on 9 December 1914 in Catawba County, North Carolina. He died on 29 September 1999 at the age of 84 in Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. His obituary appeared as follows: NEWTON Sarah Jane Tutherow Simmons, 90, of Newton, died Sunday, Nov. 6, 2011 at Palliative CareCenter & Hospice of Catawba Valley. She was born Jan. 3, 1921 in Lincoln County to her late mother, Rille May Tutherow. Sarah had a long courageous battle with Alzheimer's. Sarah loved to cook for her family, She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great-grand-mother. She married the love of her life Fred A. Simmons, they were blessed with a marriage of 65 years before his untimely death. Sarah was also blessed with three brothers, a sister, and her dad Everette Moses, who all preceded her in death. She was also blessed with three sisters-in-law, Aileen Moses, Blanche (Dude) Lowman, and Nancy Little; and a brother-in-law, Carl (Buck) Simmons. Sarah was blessed with three wonderful daughters, Nancy Pope and her late husband, Franklin, Carolyn Underwood and her husband, Kenneth, and Doris Huffman and husband, Charles. Sarah was also blessed with her loving grandchildren, Teresa Pope, Randy Underwood and his wife, Beverly, David Pope and his wife, Cindy, Clyde Pope, Janet Barger, Dennis Huffman and his wife, Kristy, Chad Underwood, and Lisa Averitte and her husband, Richard. Sarah was also blessed with 11 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grand-children. Sarah was also blessed with numerous other relatives and close friends. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to Palliative CareCenter & Hospice of Catawba Valley, 3975 Robinson Rd., Newton, NC 28658, or Carillon Assisted Living, 1088 Radio Station Rd., Newton, NC 28658. The Family will receive friends and family at Willis-Reynolds Funeral Home in Newton Wednesday, Nov. 9, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. The funeral will be held Thursday, Nov. 10, at 11n a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Newton with the Revs. Robert Stevens and Ken Tonnesen officiating. Burial will follow at St. Paul's Memorial Park.
