Hal Edwin PROPST and Annie Ray LAIL were married on 29 September 1944. Annie Ray LAIL, daughter of Clifford Pinkney LAIL and Hettie O. HUFFMAN, was born on 18 March 1926 in Catawba County, North Carolina. She died on 23 November 2010 at the age of 84 in Lutheran Home at Trinity Oaks, Salisbury, NC. She was buried in Catawba Memorial Park, Hickory, Catawba County, NC. Her obituary appeared as follows: SALISBURY - Annie Ray Lail Propst, 84, formerly of Greensboro, died peacefully on Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2010, at the Lutheran Home at Trinity Oaks in Salisbury. Born March 18, 1926, in Catawba County, she was the daughter of the late Clifford P. Lail and Hettie Huffman Lail. She was educated in Catawba County schools. Ann was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Greensboro, and formerly of Miller's Lutheran Church, Hickory. She was a loving wife, devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Ann was a housewife and also worked in a hosiery mill in Hickory, with a looper in her home, and at Joyner Elementary School cafeteria. She enjoyed bowling, Scrabble, gardening, reading and Bible study. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hal E. Propst, whom she married on Sept. 29, 1944, and by her two sisters, Willie Mae Huffman and Hazel Sigmon. Survivors include two sons, Alan D. Propst, Greensboro, Gary D. Propst, Chapel Hill; two daughters, Linda P. Voelker (Bob), Salisbury, and Janet D. Propst, Greensboro; one brother, Robert Lail (Jeanette), Hickory; two sisters, Marie Huffman and Margaret Deal (Harold), Conover; four grandchildren, Camille English (Warren), Belmont, Clinton Propst (Marquila) and Jay Haynesworth, Greensboro, and Cheri Barrett (Paul), Reidsville; and four great-grand children. The funeral will be held at the Bass-Smith Funeral Home chapel in Hickory Friday, Nov. 26, 2010, at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Dwight Shellaway officiating. The visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Burial will follow at Catawba Memorial Park.
