Ellen EDWARDS, daughter of George Ivey EDWARDS and Jennie Sarah ROBINSON, was born on 22 January 1922 in Catawba County, North Carolina. She died on 16 January 2009 at the age of 86 in Claremont, Catawba County, North Carolina. She was buried in Mt. Olive Lutheran Church Cemetery, Newton, North Carolina. Her obituary appeared as follows: CLAREMONT - Ellen Edwards Travis, 86, of Newton, passed away Friday, Jan. 16, 2009, at her residence. Born Jan. 22, 1922, in Catawba County, she was the daughter of the late George Ivey Edwards and Sarah Robinson Edwards. Mrs. Travis retired from Regency Bedspread in Conover. She was a member of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Newton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Franklin LeRoy Travis, and seven brothers. She is survived by her daughters, Jane Caldwell of Claremont and Brenda Keller of Catawba; sisters, Irene Wilson of Catawba and Nonie Beatty of Newton; brother-in-law, Alvin Travis of Buford, S.C.; sister-in-law, Vinnalee Yow of Kannapolis; grandson, Joshua Caldwell and wife, Cara, of Catawba; great-granddaughters, Bridgette and Savannah Caldwell; stepgranddaughter, Christy Mosteller and husband, Bobby, of Sawmills, N.C.; stepgreat-granddaughter, Alyson Mosteller; and numerous nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Monday, Jan. 19, 2009, at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Newton, with the Revs. Ralph Abernethy and Jim Church officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 3 to 3:45 p.m. at the church, prior to the service.
