Edith Marie LAFONE was born on 16 October 1917 in Catawba County, North Carolina.^2177,2181 She died on 16 February 2009 at the age of 91 in Pallative Care & Hospice of Catawba Valley, Newton, North Carolina. She was buried in St. Peter's Lutheran Church cemetery, north of Conover, Catawba County, NC. Her obituary appeared as follows: CONOVER - Edith Marie Lafone Eckard, 91, of Conover, died Monday, Feb. 16, 2009, at Palliative CareCenter & Hospice of Catawba Valley. Mrs. Eckard was born Oct. 16, 1917, in Catawba County, a daughter of the late Perry Lee Lafone and Hester Kaylor Lafone. She was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Conover and retired from the furniture industry. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Harold Clee Eckard; brothers, Carroll Lafone, Ivo Lafone, Lawrence Lafone, George Lafone and Herbert Lafone; sisters, Bertha Keller, Anna Hedrick, Claudia Lafone, Zelda Hefner, Rena Huffman and Lucille Ratliff; and a son-in-law, Dean Hollar. Survivors include a son, Larry Harold Eckard and wife, Brenda, of Hickory; daughters, Janet Elaine Hollar of Hickory and Karen Marie Hoyle and husband, Robert, of Conover; grandchildren, Dina Coffey, Brian Eckard, Jason Eckard, Rodney Hollar, Penny Williams, Chris Hoyle and Jonathan Hoyle; and great-grandchildren, Susan Coffey, Andrea Coffey, Erin Coffey, Megan Eckard, Maxwell Eckard, Wesley Hollar, Madelyn Hollar, Cameron Craig and Caroline Craig. A service of remembrance will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2009, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, with the Revs. Paul D. Birner and Matthew Schilling officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:45 p.m., prior to the service, at the church. Memorials may be sent to St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 6175 St. Peter's Church Road, Conover, N.C. 28613.
