Mamie HUFFMAN, daughter of Connie Monroe "Coon" HUFFMAN and Sarah YOUNG, was born on 17 January 1922 in Burke County, North Carolina.²⁶⁸³ She died on 15 December 2011 at the age of 89 in Frye Regional Medical Center, Hickory, Catawba County, NC. She was buried in Fairview (Houck's Chapel) Cemetery, Hickory, North Carolina. Her obituary appeared as follows: VALDESE Mamie H. Houston, 89, of Hildebran, went to her heavenly home Thursday, Dec. 15, 2011, at Frye Regional Medical Center following a period of declining health. Mrs. Houston was born Jan. 17, 1922, to the late Connie Monroe and Sarah Young Huffman. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Thomas Houston; four brothers, John Huffman, Lester Huffman, McKinley Huffman and Charlie Young; and two sisters, Leola Wise and Rosa Proctor. Survivors include her daughter, Dorothy Franklin, of Icard; her son, Bobby Houston, of Hildebran; four grandchildren, Angela Gouge, Brian Franklin, Lisa Odom and Bobby Houston, Jr.; and her great- grandchildren, Sarah Gouge, Moriah Franklin, Bethany Houston, Kasey Odom, Madison Odom, Paige Houston and Cooper Houston. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 18, in the Chapel of Heritage Funeral Service with Rev. Russell Ma-kant officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Hickory. The family will receive friends Sunday from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Service.
