His obituary appeared as follows: Thelma Luetta Propst Miller, 94, of Hickory, passed away on Friday, March 16, 2012 at Lutheran Home Hickory West after a lengthy illness. Born June 26, 1917 in Buncombe County, she was the daughter of the late Lillie Blanche Raby and Charles David Propst. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Franklin Miller; two brothers: Dixon Propst, Ray Propst; and a sister, Coleen Robbins. A member of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Hickory, Mrs. Miller was Valedictorian of the first graduating class at St. Stephens High School. She also worked as a beautician in her early years but had retired as a seamstress from Hunt Galleries. She is survived by two daughters: Carolyn Ledford and husband Jerry of Hickory, NC, Betty Green and husband Bobby of Benton, LA; son, John Miller and wife Christine Coventry of Chapel Hill, NC; six grandchildren: Terri Ledford of Charlotte, NC, Scott Ledford of Hickory, NC, Kimberly Poe and husband Larry of Iron Station, NC, Karen Ward and husband Scott of Hermitage, TN, Tommy Green and wife Melody of Hot Springs, AR, Kathy Mathews and husband Steve of Pineville, LA; and nine great-grandchildren: Caleb Ledford, Lindsey Poe, David Poe, Christopher Poe, Mark Ward, Heather Ward, Brady Green, Brandon Mathews, and Brittany Mathews. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 21, 2012 in Oakwood Cemetery with the Rev. Paul Birkedal officiating. The family will receive friends from 1– 1:45 p.m. prior to the service at Bass-Smith Funeral Home.
