5774. Neil Kenneth HOUSTON was born on 11 November 1949 in Catawba County, North Carolina. He died on 17 April 2012 at the age of 62 in Alamance Regional Medical Center, Burlington, NC. His obituary appeared as follows: CLAREMONT Neil Kenneth Houston, 62, of Claremont passed away Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at Alamance Regional Medical Center in Burlington. Born Nov. 11, 1949 in Catawba County, he was the son of the late Dewey Albert Houston and Hazel Louise Travis Houston. Neil was the former owner of Conover Sportsware Inc. and Outdoor Quest. He was an avid outdoorsman and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in Vietnam as a Sergeant in an 81 mm mortar platoon with Company D, 1st Battalion, 11th Infantry, 5th Infantry Division M, stationed in Quang Tri Province, South Vietnam from 1970 to 1971. He was a member of American Legion Post #48. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Houston. Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Cathy Hicks Houston of the home; sons, Mark Kenneth Houston and his wife, Tammy Nicole, of Vale and Robert Allen Houston and his wife, Carmen, of Catawba; brother, Jerry Albert Houston of Providence, N.C.; sisters, Nancy H. Dabbs and her husband, Lester, of Occee, Fla., Janet H. Wilson and her huband, Jim, of Conover and Pam H. Kupetz and her husband, Bill, of Harriman, Tenn.; grandchildren, Logan Alexandre Walker, Chloe Paige Fountain, Carley Grace Fountain, Cayden Charles Houston; and mother-in-law, Willie Mae Hicks of Newton. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, Apri 21, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Drum Funeral Home with the Rev. Cory Smith officiating. Military Rites will be presented by American Legion Post #48. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hazel T. Houston Transitional Living Cottage, Sipes Orchard Home, 4431 County Home Rd., Conover, NC 28613.
