2754. Arnold Eugene FLOWERS was born on 11 April 1939 in Catawba County, North Carolina. He died on 7 August 2012 at the age of 73 in Duke Medical Center, Durham, NC. His obituary appeared as follows: GRANITE FALLS Arnold Eugene Flowers, 73, of Hickory, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2012, at Duke University Medical Center, Durham. Born April 11, 1939, in Catawba County, he was the son of the late Carroll M. Flowers and Ola Huffman Flowers. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Wade Flowers, Rev. C. William Flowers and Larry Dale Flowers; one sister, Betty Lord; and father-in-law, Daniel Ray Poovey. He is survived by his wife, Renee Poovey Flowers, of the home; one son, David B. Flowers, of Bethlehem; one sister, Dorothy Bumgarner and husband, Floyd, of Conover; three sisters-in-law, Adeliah Flowers, of Conover, Delorys Flowers, of Newberry, S.C., and Lorna Sheets and husband, David, of Newton; mother-in-law, Pearl Poovey, of Hickory; brother-in-law, Barry Poovey and wife, Glennis, of Hickory; and a number of nieces and nephews and many loving friends. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 10, at Miller's Lutheran Church with Pastor Jason Sigmon officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:45 p.m., prior to services at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Miller's Lutheran Church, c/o Organ or Music Fund, 2280 12th Ave. N.E., Hickory, NC 28601, or to the charity of one's choice.
