Her obituary appeared as follows: NEWTON - Mary "Pauline" Hefner Reinhardt, 83, of Newton, died Saturday, June 20, 2009, at Catawba Valley Medical Center in Hickory after a courageous battle with cancer and leukemia. Born Sept. 21, 1925, in Catawba County, she was the daughter of the late Robert Lawrence Hefner and Addie Link Hefner. Mrs. Reinhardt was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, North Oliver's Crossroads, Newton. She was involved with American Legion Post 16 in Newton and Old Soldiers Reunion Week, served as president of the VFW Women's Auxiliary, helped actively with the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C., and wrote articles for her own veterans newsletter, which informed veterans of various benefits they may be entitled to. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Jack Daniel Reinhardt; three grandchildren; sisters, Inez H. Frye and her husband, Ralph, and Doris H. Deal and her husband, James; brother, Robert Osburn Hefner and his wife, Lucille; sister-in-law, Margaret Hefner; and brother-in-law, Marvin Eckard. She is survived by her daughters, Darlene R. Fox and her husband, Henry, of Conover, Annette Reinhardt Roseman Williams Lusk and her husband, Charles, of Catawba and Donna R. Kennedy and her husband, Mike, of Conover; sons, Jamie Douglas Reinhardt of Hickory, Robert James Reinhardt Sr. and his wife, Claudia, of Conover and Paul Daniel Reinhardt of Newton; 17 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 12 stepgreat-grandchildren; brothers, Adrian Hefner and Kenneth Hefner and his wife, Hiroko, all of Conover; sisters, Betty Poovey and husband, Junius, of Merritt Island, Fla., Hilda Eckard of Claremont and Shirley Watts and her husband, Bill, of Conover; and numerous nieces and nephews. A Service of Remembrance will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 23, 2009, at St. Paul's United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight, Monday evening, June 22, 2009, from 5 to 9 p.m. at Willis-Reynolds Funeral Home.
