Walter Earl HEFNER and Ila Elizabeth LAIL were married estimated 1920. Ila Elizabeth LAIL, daughter of William Alonzo [Lael] LAIL and Minnie Augusta HEFNER, was born on 12 January 1901 in Catawba County, North Carolina.¹⁷²⁶ She was baptized on 17 February 1901 in Daughter of W. L. Lail and wife.²¹⁵⁵ She died on 12 February 1998 at the age of 97 in Newton, Catawba County, North Carolina. Ila was also known as Ila Siless [Lael] LAIL.

Billy Ray HEFNER was born on 2 May 1930 in Catawba County, North Carolina. He died on 3 September 2012 at the age of 82 in Greenville General Hospital, Greenville, Greenville County, SC. His obituary appeared as follows: GREENVILLE, S.C. Billy Ray Hefner, 82, of Greenville, S.C., formerly of Conover, died Monday, Sept. 3, 2012 at Greenville Memorial Hospital in Greenville, SC. Born May 2, 1930, in Catawba County, he was the son of the late Earl Walter and Ila Lail Hefner. He was a self-made man who retired from Conover Frame Shop, where he was the owner. He served in the U.S. Navy and was a Veteran of the Korean War. He loved to camp, fish, and travel. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers Carl Hefner and Paul Hefner. Survivors include dau-hter, Karen Gulledge, of Clayton; grandchil-dren, Kristen Nicole Rivers, of Concord, SPC Kyle Justin Rivers, stationed at Savannah, Ga.; great-grandchil-dren, Emory and Jay-den; brother, Claude Hefner and wife, Grace, of Newton. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7, at Drum Funeral Home & Cremations in Conover.
