Clement Russell POPE Jr. was born on 27 August 1926 in Hickory, Catawba County, North Carolina. He died on 4 January 2013 at the age of 86 in Hildebran, Burke County, North Carolina. He was buried in First Baptist Church Cem., Hildebran, North Carolina. His obituary appeared as follows: HILDEBRAN Clement Russell Pope Jr., 86, of Hildebran, passed away, Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, after a brief illness. Born, Aug. 27, 1926, in Catawba County, he was the son of the late Myrtle Arney and Clement Russell Pope Sr. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Betty Brittain Pope, March, of 2012. Mr. Pope was a member of First Baptist Church, Hildebran, and a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II. He had a career with the railroad, and in heating and air conditioning. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was a shriner and enjoyed model railroading. He is survived by two daughters, Donna Hipp and husband, Gary, of Chapin, S.C., Cindy Self and husband, Matthew, of Harrisburg, N.C.; a son, Jeff Pope and wife, Noelle, of Hildebran, N.C.; a sister, Dorothy Noggle, of Hickory, N.C.; sister-in-law, Margaret B. Wetzel, of Bloomfield Hills, Mich.; grandchildren, Jeffrey Pope, Katie Pope, and Baylee Hicks, all of Hildebran, N.C., and Andrew and Daniel Self, both of Harrisburg, N.C. The service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 7, at First Baptist Church, Hildebran, with the Rev. Ron Arndt officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, from 10 to 11:00 a.m. at the church. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Hildebran, Building Fund, P.O.
