Frances Lorraine SMITH (private).1896 Darvin Vance YOUNT, son of William Vance YOUNT and Icey Belle POPE, was born on 17 August 1928.1896 He died on 31 May 2010 at the age of 81 in Lutheran Home East, Hickory, North Carolina. He was buried in Conover City Cemetery, Conover, Catawba, North Carolina. His obituary appeared as follows: CONOVER - Darvin Vance Yount, 82, of Conover, passed away Monday, May 31, 2010, at Lutheran Home East, following a period of declining health. Darvin was born Aug. 17, 1927, in Catawba County to the late William Vance and Icey Pope Yount. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Moose. He was a lifelong member of Concordia Lutheran Church, a World War II Army veteran, and was active in the Lutheran Laymen's League, Town of Catawba Historical Association, Telephone Pioneers Club, retired from Sprint-Centel Telephone in management, and was a graduate of Lenoir-Rhyne College. The family would like to express special thanks to the staff of Lutheran Home East for the seven years of loving care and kindness shown to Darvin and his family. Surviving are his wife, Lorraine Smith Yount of the home; daughter, Joyce McNeill and husband, Russell "Mac"; sons, Kevin Yount of Dallas and friend, Ingrid Lindahl, of Charlotte, and Tim Yount and wife, Carla, of Portland, Maine; six grandchildren, Andy and Emily Moretz, Nate Moretz and Randee Parker, Meghan Moretz, Daniel Yount, Ian Yount and Jamie McNeill; sisters, Kathleen Yount, Nadine Seitz and husband, Carl, and Camilla Yount and husband, Hugh, all of Conover. Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Thursday, June 3, 2010, at Concordia Lutheran Church of Conover with the Pastor Mark Schudde officiating. Pallbearers will be Conrad Yount, Myron Yount, Lee Robinson, Jack Robinson, Dr. Don Good and Jeff Kerley. Interment will follow in Conover City Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by American Legion Post 48. The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 3, from 2 until 3:45 p.m. at Concordia Lutheran Church of Conover.
