Forrest Brady WHITENER, son of Abel P. WHITENER and Jennie Catherine HUFFMAN, was born on 22 November 1917 in Catawba County, North Carolina. He died on 5 February 2006 at the age of 88 in Frye Regional Medical Center, Hickory, Catawba County, NC. His obituary appeared as follows:2765 HICKORY - Forest Brady Whitener, 88, of Bethel Church Road, died Feb. 5, 2006, at Frye Regional Medical Center after a brief illness. Born Nov. 22, 1917, in Catawba County, he was a son of the late Abel P. and Jennie Huffman Whitener. He was a lifelong member of Mountain Grove Baptist Church and was a retired painter with Glenn Wilson Construction. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Andrew, Oliver and William “Bill” Whitener. Survivors include his wife, Carmen Herman Whitener of the home; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Gail W. and Jerry Jones and Sue W. and Errol Ward of Hickory and Kay W. DelVechio of Statesville; a granddaughter, Wanda Jones of Hickory; seven grandsons, Tim Jones, Jeff Jones, Kirk Ward, Chuck Ward and Jody DelVechio of Hickory and Kevin Ward and Chad DelVechio of Newton; 14 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Thelma Killian of California. The funeral will be conducted by Dr. Gordon Benton at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Mountain Grove Baptist Church. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be his grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Harmony Sunday School Class. The family will receive friends tonight, Monday night, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hickory Funeral Home.
