Dora Elminia HERMAN was born on 14 March 1939 in Catawba County, North Carolina. She died on 7 May 2012 at the age of 73 in Hickory, Catawba County, North Carolina. She was buried in Catawba Memorial Park, Hickory, Catawba County, NC. Her obituary appeared as follows: HICKORY Mrs. Dora Elminia Ellis, 73, passed away May 7, 2012 at her residence after a lengthy illness. She was born March 14, 1939 in Hickory, the daughter of Robert and Bessie Baker Herman. She was a member of Miller's Lutheran Church (NALC) and had formerly worked at both Sherrill Furniture and Clayton-Marcus Furniture Co. A caring and giving person, she enjoyed crafts, gardening and being outdoors. She cared for her family and was a mother to all who knew her. She is preceded in death by her parents; a son, Stephen Lynn Ellis and a brother Alvin Canipe. Survivors include her husband, Fred L. Ellis; a daughter, Veronica Ellis Pennell and husband, Rodney of Hickory; two brothers, Robert W. Herman of Troy, Mont., and Donald J. Herman of Priest River, Idaho; five sisters, Dorothy Rozzelle of Hickory, Doris Mosteller of Bethlehem, Barbara Killian of Conover, Cora Keller of Hickory and Christine Wright of Priest River, Idaho; two grandchildren, Ryne Pennell and Stephanie Ellis both of Hickory and many nieces, nephews and friends. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, May 11th, at Catawba Funerals and Cremations by the Rev. Jason Sigmon. Burial will follow in Catawba Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Thursday, May 10, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
