It tendered its service to the state and was ordered to Garysburg [N.C.] where it was assigned to this Regiment. The company was mustered in as Captain John Ray's Company and was designated Company K and Company G before it was designated Company A. After it was mustered into the regiment the company functioned as a part of the regiment, and its history for the war period is recorded as a part of the regimental history.
