Cyril Ralph HERMAN and Nellie HUFFMAN were married estimated 1935. Nellie HUFFMAN, daughter of Joseph Hillary HUFFMAN and Bennie Leona BUMGARNER, was born on 2 January 1916 in Catawba County, North Carolina. She died on 28 September 2010 at the age of 94 in Lutheran Home East, Hickory, North Carolina. Her obituary appeared as follows: HICKORY - Nellie Huffman Herman, 94, of Hickory, died Sept. 28, 2010, at Lutheran Home, Springs Road, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's disease. Born Jan. 2, 1916, in Catawba County, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Hillary Huffman and Bennie Bumgarner Huffman. She was a member of St. Andrew's Lutheran Church, Hickory, for over 50 years, where she was very active. She was the owner of Herman Erection Co. after the death of her husband, Cyril R. Herman. For many years she was a Red Cross volunteer at Frye Regional Medical Center. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Lucille Frye, Sadie Hester and Catherine Pope, all of Hickory, and Lois Light of Jackson Heights, N.Y. She is survived by her daughter, Jane E. Herman of Hickory; a son, C. Bruce Herman of Atlanta; a granddaughter, Jennifer H. Warren and husband, Jamie Warren, of Hickory; a great-grandson, Eli Warren of Hickory; a daughter-in-law, Alice S. Herman of Hickory; a sister, Elizabeth H. Pope of Hickory; three nieces, Beth Sigmon of Hickory, Kathleen Smith of Florham Park, N.J., Geraldine McArdle of Long Beach, N.Y.; and one nephew, Tony Pope of Durham. The funeral service will be held on Friday, Oct. 1, 2010, at 11 a.m. at St. Andrew's Lutheran Church, 629 Eighth St., NE, Hickory, with the Rev. Richard Fritz officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the funeral. Burial will follow in Catawba Memorial Park. The family will receive friend today, Thursday, Sept. 30, 2010, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Bass-Smith Funeral Home.
