3003. Glenn Edward YOUNT was born on 25 March 1917 in Catawba County, North Carolina. He died on 9 July 2011 at the age of 94 in Newton, Catawba County, North Carolina. His obituary appeared as follows: NEWTON Glenn Edward Yount, 94, of Newton, died Saturday, July 9, 2011 at his residence. Born March 25, 1917 in Catawba County, he was the son of the late Junius Avery and Grace Edwards Yount. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of over 69 years, Laura Elizabeth Bumgarner Yount; a son, Glenn Franklin Yount; brothers, Avery L. Yount, J. Horace Yount and Ralph P. Yount; and a sister, Adelia A. Yount Lineberger. Glenn was a 1939 graduate of North Carolina State University where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Honors Architectural Engineering. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during World War II. He was the owner and operator of Yount Lumber Company and Yount & Associates. During his career, he designed and built many homes, churches, elementary schools and industrial properties, including his own church, Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Newton, where he was formerly president of the congregation and elder. His last project was the remodeling of the current Salt Block in 1984-1986, which provides an excellent home for the Hickory Museum of Art, Catawba Science Center, United Arts Council of Catawba County, Western Piedmont Symphony and Hickory Choral Society. Glenn was a co-founder of the Eastern Catawba County Chamber of Commerce, where he served as the first president and on various committees for several years. He was a former member and past president of the Newton Kiwanis Club. He was currently a member of the Newton-Conover Rotary Club, where he was a Paul Harris Fellow and in May 2011, he was presented the Dr. William T. MacLauchlin Memorial Award, for a lifetime of "Service Above Self". He will be remembered for his generosity to his church and community; his zest for life, positive attitude, charismatic smile, and love of his family. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas E. and Nancy Starnes Yount of Newton; grandchildren, Samantha E. Yount of Newton, Ashley R. Yount and Katherine G. Yount both of Charlotte. A service of remembrance will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, July 13, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church. The Revs. Paul Fitzpatrick and Bill Mims will officiate and burial will follow in Eastview Cemetery. Members of the Newton-Conover Rotary Club will serve as pallbearers and honorary pallbearers. BUMGARNER and Rose HOLDER, was born on 28 August 1918 in Catawba County, North Carolina. She died on 23 September 2010 at the age of 92 in Newton, Catawba County, North Carolina. Her obituary appeared as follows: NEWTON - Laura Elizabeth Bumgarner Yount, 92, of Newton, died unexpectedly at her residence on Thursday, Sept. 23, 2010. Born Aug. 28, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Henry E. and Rose Holder Bumgarner. She was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Garden Lovers Club of Newton and the Newton Needlers. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Glenn Franklin Yount; and a sister, Evelyn Simmons. Survivors include her husband of 69 years and nine months, Glenn E. Yount of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Tommy and Nancy Yount of Newton; sister, Sara B. Annas of Winston-Salem; and grandchildren, Samantha E. Yount of Bradley Beach, N.J., Ashley R. Yount of Charlotte and Katherine G. Yount of Newton. A service of remembrance will be held at 3 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 27, 2010, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church. The Rev.
