He was buried in St. John's Lutheran Church (MO Synod) Cemetery, Conover, Catawba County, NC. His obituary appeared as follows: CONOVER - Guy Eugene "GE" Hollar, 85, of Conover, died Friday, Oct. 2, 2009, at Carillon Assisted Living Center. He was born July 27, 1924, in Iredell County to the late Guy E. and Pearl Sigmon Hollar. Mr. Hollar was a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church. He was a graduate of Claremont High School in 1942 and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on the USS Texas. Mr. Hollar was the first superintendent of Rock Barn Club of Golf and a retired farmer. He was a member of American Legion Post 48 in Hickory. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Faye Smith Hollar; two sons, Steven Hollar and Guy Edward Hollar; and three brothers, Vance Hollar of Conover, Roy Hollar of San Antonio, Texas, and Boyce Hollar of Tooele, Utah. Guy is survived by his wife of 34 years, Celia S. Hollar of Conover; a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia Hollar and Darrow Mann of Conover; six grandchildren, Amy and Boyd Yount of Hillsborough, Keith and Suzanne Mann of Conover, Eric and Jennifer Hollar of Chapel Hill, Heather and Tim Johnson of Apex and Hayley and Brian Leonard and Steven Hollar, all of Hickory; two stepchildren, Chris and Martha Sigmon of Spartanburg, S.C., and Tammy and John Moore of Clemmons; four stepgrandchildren, Dr. Ryan and Rebekah Sigmon of Columbia, S.C., Dr. Lindsay Sigmon of Greenville, S.C., Drew Sigmon of Spartanburg, S.C., and Jonathan Moore of Clemmons; seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Lena Bumgarner of Hickory and Helen Hester of Conover; and brother, Fred Hollar of El Cajon, Calif. A Celebration of Life will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, Oct. 5, 2009, at St. John's Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Scott Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:45 p.m., prior to the service, at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, Building Fund, 2126 St. John's Church Road, Conover, N.C. 28613.
