His obituary appeared as follows: HICKORY - Gerald Lloyd Futrell, 56, of Greenlea Circle, Taylorsville, died Wednesday at Catawba Valley Medical Center after a period of declining health. Born Nov. 4, 1947, in Catawba County, he was a son of the late Lloyd and Lucy Sloop Futrell. A member of the Hickory Camera Club, he retired from GE. He was preceded in death by a brother, Howard Sloop Jr. Survivors include his wife, Gayna Smart Futrell of the home; a daughter, Emily DeBeve of Hickory; two sons, Steven Futrell and Gerald Lloyd Futrell Jr. of Florida; and two granddaughters, Summer Hendrix and Elise DeBeve of Hickory. The funeral will be conducted by the Rev. Mike McKinney at 2 p.m. Saturday at Hickory Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 tonight. Hickory Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
