Johnnie Hugh EDWARDS, son of George Ivey EDWARDS and Jennie Sarah ROBINSON, was born on 9 July 1916 in Catawba County, North Carolina. He died on 26 January 2007 at the age of 90 in Catawba Valley Medical Center, Hickory, Catawba County, North Carolina. He was buried in Smyrna United Chruch of Christ Cemetery, Catawba County, North Carolina. His obituary appeared as follows: CATAWBA - Johnnie Hugh Edwards, 90, of Sherrills Ford Road, Catawba, passed away Friday, Jan. 26, 2007, at Catawba Valley Medical Center in Hickory. Born July 9, 1916, in Catawba County, he was the son of the late G.I. and Jenny Robinson Edwards. He was a World War II veteran. Mr. Edwards loved gardening, fishing and hunting. He was a member of Smyrna Church in Catawba and the Goldmine Breakfast Club. In addition to his parents, his wife, Lucille Setzer Alley Edwards, and six brothers, Martin, George, Arthur, Floyd, Hobb and Eli Edwards, preceded him in death. He is survived by two nephews, Ray Alley and wife, Martha, of Greensboro, and Jim Edwards and wife, Ramona, of Catawba, and their children, Ida Edwards and Jenny Fisher; three sisters, Nonie Beatty of Sherrills Ford, Irene Wilson of Catawba and Ellen Travis of Claremont; and a number of other nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held Monday, Jan. 29, 2007, at 2 p.m. at Burke Mortuary Chapel in Newton, with the Revs. Woodrow Alexander and Jim Humphries officiating. Burial will follow in Smyrna Church Cemetery in Catawba. The family will receive friends Monday from 1 to 1:45 p.m. at Burke Mortuary in Newton, prior to the service.
