Harry GALLIMORE, son of Harry GALLIMORE, was born on 7 July 1920 in Shelby, Cleveland County, North Carolina. He died on 1 March 2004 at the age of 83 in Pallative Care & Hospice of Catawba Valley, Newton, North Carolina. He was buried in Grace Lutheran Church Cemetery, Catawba County, North Carolina. His obituary appeared as follows: NEWTON - Harry Gallimore Jr., 83, who resided on South Main Avenue in Newton, died on Monday, March 1, 2004, at Palliative Care Center & Hospice of Catawba Valley. Born July 7, 1920, in Shelby, he was the son of the late Harry Osborne Gallimore and the late Mabel Poston Gallimore. Mr. Gallimore lived a life that reflected his commitment to his wife and daughters, his work, his church and community. He began his work career at an early age in retail sales. He served in the Coast Guard in the South Pacific in World War II. After his service, he worked for the Employment Security Commission as Veterans’ Employment Representative, and later for Jarrett’s Chemical Co. Mr. Gallimore was employed as general manager of Newton Glove, later acquired by Norton Safety Products, for 23 years, managing four plants in Newton, Maiden, Oxford and Haiti, until he retired in 1982. Work colleagues and friends found Harry to be down-to-earth, friendly, sensitive, humble, humorous and kind, a great storyteller, and devoted to work. Mr. Gallimore was active in the VFW, American Legion, the Lions Club, the Newton Elementary PTA, and the Boy Scouts of America. He was a member of Masonic Lodge 343. He was a devoted member of Beth-Eden Lutheran Church, where he taught Sunday school and served on the council. He took great pride in serving his community, church and country. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Wray Lee and James Gallimore. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Florence Anthony Gallimore; two daughters, Patsy G. Taylor and husband, Milton, of Sykesville, Md., and Joyce G. Swanson and husband, Sam, of South Burlington, Vt.; three grandsons, Captain Matthew Gallimore Taylor and wife, Jennifer, of Montgomery, Ala., and Andrew Taylor and Aaron Taylor of Sykesville, Md.; two great-grandchildren, Colin Gallimore Taylor and Brealynn Taylor of Montgomery, Ala.; and a sister-in-law, Hazel Lutz of Clemmons. A memorial service will be held at Beth Eden Lutheran Church, North Main Avenue, Newton, at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 6, 2004. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service, beginning at 9:30 a.m. A private service will be held at the Grace Lutheran Church Cemetery for internment. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Beth Eden Lutheran Church, 400 N. Main Ave., Newton, N.C. 28658; Palliative Care Center & Hospice of Catawba Valley, 3975 Robinson Road, Newton, N.C. 28658; the Salvation Army of Hickory, 750 Third Ave., SE, Hickory, N.C. 28602; or the charity of one’s choice.
