In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Thomas Broome; six brothers; and four sisters. She is survived by her daughter Maggie Broome Fish of Catawba; two sisters, Frances Lee and Colleen Kirksey both of Catawba; three grand-daughters, Lisa Fish Spaulding of Fla., Tammy Fish Bell and Cherie Ann Fish, both of Catawba; seven great-grandchildren, Merci Price, Sheldon, Philip, and Austin Bell, Drew, Quinn and Sean Spaulding. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 7, at 11 a.m. at Mathis Chapel Baptist Church in Catawba with the Rev. Travis Triplett officiating. The body will lies in state 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 6, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Burke Mortuary in Newton. Her obituary appeared as follows: CATAWBA - Zelda Mae Kirksey Greer, 82, of Mathis Church Road in Catawba, passed away Friday, Dec. 19, 2008, at Brian Center East in Hickory. Born April 8, 1926, in Catawba County, she was the daughter of the late Alexander Kirksey and Sallie Setzer Dagenhardt Kirksey. Mrs. Greer was a member of Mathis Chapel Baptist Church in Catawba. In addition to her parents, two sons, Sammy David Greer and Max Greer, six brothers and three sisters, preceded her in death. Survivors include four sons, David Greer and Kim of Lenoir, Eddie Greer and Carol of Maiden, Ray Greer and Calvin Greer and Connie, all of Catawba; three sisters, Coleen Kirksey, Frances Lee and Ruth Broome, all of Catawba; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 21, 2008, at Mathis Chapel Baptist Church in Catawba, with the Rev. Larry Cooley officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
