2742. Jacob Pinkney "JP" HUFFMAN was born on 4 January 1922 in Catawba County, North Carolina.496 He died on 21 January 2010 at the age of 88 in Catawba County, North Carolina. His obituary appeared as follows: NEWTON - Jacob Pinkney "JP" Huffman, 88, passed away Jan. 21, 2010. Jacob was born Jan. 4, 1922, in Catawba County to the late Earl and Eula Flowers Huffman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Clyde and Ray Huffman. JP was a member of New Jerusalem Lutheran Church and retired from Century Furniture after 30 years of service. He also was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army in the South Pacific Theatre. Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Helen Sigmon Huffman; daughter, Teresa Vanderlinden of Conover; granddaughters, Lisa Cook and husband, Allen, of Conover and Misty Dover and husband, Paul, of Winston-Salem; grandson, Lee Vanderlinden of Hickory; sisters, Effie Marie Mitchell of Newton and Jean Teague of Pennsylvania; great-grandchildren, Katherine Cook, Madison Cook, Kyndall Dover and Jacob Dover; and a number of nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends today, Saturday, Jan. 23, 2010, from 5 to 7 p.m. at New Jerusalem Lutheran Church. The funeral service will be Sunday, Jan. 24, at 3 p.m. at New Jerusalem Lutheran Church, with Pastor Randall Cauble officiating. Military honors will be conducted by members of American Legion Post 48. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. She died on 15 December 2012 at the age of 88 in Catawba Valley Medical Center, Hickory, Catawba County, North Carolina. She was buried in New Jerusalem Lutheran Church Cemetery, Hickory, Catawba County, NC. Her obituary appeared as follows: NEWTON Helen Sigmon Huffman, 88, passed away Dec. 15, 2012, under the care of Catawba Regional Hospice. Helen was born, Aug.t 15, 1924, in Catawba County, to the late Mr. Edward C. Sigmon and Mrs. Annie Lee Huffman Sigmon. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Jacob Pinkney "JP" Huffman; brothers, Shuford Sigmon, Ralph Sigmon, Glenn Sigmon, Claude Sigmon, and Paul Sigmon. She was a active member of New Jerusalem Lutheran Church, where she had served as President of Senior Friends, and had been employed by CommScope, and Rack Room Shoes. She is survived by her daughter, Teresa Vanderlinden of the home; granddaughter, Lisa Cook and husband, Allen, of Conover; grandson, Lee Vanderlinden, of Hickory; granddaughter, Misty Dover and husband, Paul, of Winston Salem; great-grandchildren, Katherine Cook, Madison Cook, Kyndall Dover, and Jacob Dover; and a brother, Earl Sigmon and wife, Jean, of Halifax. The family will receive friends Wednesday, from 6:30 to 8 p.m at New Jerusalem Lutheran Church. Services will be Thursday, at 2 p.m. at New Jerusalem Lutheran Church, with the Revs. Randall Cauble and Jason Sigmon officiating. Pallbearers will be Steve Flowers, Brian Mackie, George Lutz, Larry Sigmon, Paul Dover, and Allen Cook. Honorary pallbearers will be the Adult Women's Class and Senior Friends.
