He was born May 16, 1925 in Catawba County, the son of Roscoe and Mary Yount Killian. He was a member of Fairgrove United Methodist Church and retired from Hickory Tavern Furniture. He was an avid gardener, and also enjoyed hunting, fishing, races and baseball. Devoted to his family, he was a great cook and had a good sense of humor. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ruby Killian in February of 2012 and by four brothers, Gaither Killian, Tellis Killian, Gerald Killian and Bill Killian. Survivors include his son, Darrell Killian and wife, Carolyn of Hickory; a granddaughter, Tammy K. Burns and husband, Michael of Conover; a great-grandson Dylan Burns of Conover; two sisters, Carolyn Smith and Katherine Winkler both of Hickory; a brother-in-law, numerous sisters-in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends. A funeral service will be held Monday October 29th at Catawba Funerals and Cremations at 2 PM by Rev. Todd Rudisill. Burial will follow in Catawba Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Hugh Benford KILLIAN and Ruby Elizabeth PUNCH were married on 5 January 1946.^1900,1901 Ruby Elizabeth PUNCH, daughter of Kelly Emory PUNCH and Minnie Lee POOVEY, was born on 28 August 1924 in Catawba County, North Carolina.¹⁹⁰⁰ She died on 7 February 2012 at the age of 87 in Pallative Care & Hospice of Catawba Valley, Newton, North Carolina. She was buried in Catawba Memorial Park, Hickory, Catawba County, NC. Her obituary appeared as follows: CONOVER Ruby Elizabeth Punch Killian passed Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2012 after a brief illness at Palliative CareCenter and Hospice of Catawba Valley, surrounded by her family. Born Aug. 28, 1924 in Catawba County, she was the daughter of the late Kelly and Minnie Poovey Punch. She was a homemaker and a lifetime member of Fairgrove United Methodist Church for 86 years. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by brothers, Harold, Ralph and Everette; and sister, Elsie Lafone. Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Hugh B. Killian of Conover; son, Darrell H. Killian and his wife, Carolyn of Hickory; granddaughter, Tammy K. Burns and her husband, Michael of Conover; great-grandson, Dylan Burns of Conover; brother, Floyd Punch and his wife, Marie of Connelly Springs; sisters-in-law, Mary Alice Punch of Hickory, Lucille Punch of Hickory, and Rachel Punch of Burnsville; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mrs. Killian will be held Friday, Feb. 10, at 2 p.m. at Catawba Funerals & Cremations with the Rev. Todd Rudisill officiating. Burial will follow at Catawba Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Michael Burns, Dylan Burns, Larry Herman, Wayne Herman, Trey Herman and Phil Hawn.
