Robert Edward HERMAN Jr. and Hazel Pauline "Polly" HOKE were married on 22 July 1944. Hazel Pauline "Polly" HOKE, daughter of Worth Bagley HOKE and Nellie Eula POPE, was born on 6 October 1923 in Catawba County, North Carolina. She died on 23 April 2011 at the age of 87 in Abernethy Laurels, Newton, North Carolina. Her obituary appeared as follows: Pauline "Polly" Hoke Herman, 87, of Claremont, died Saturday, April 23, 2011, at Abernathy Laurels. A native of Catawba County, she was born on Oct. 6, 1923. Mrs. Herman was the daughter of the late Worth and Eula Pope Hoke, and was a life-long member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church. Mrs. Herman was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Herman, who died April 24, 1993; sisters, Mary Nell Laws and Bonnie Brown; and brother, Worth "Sonny" Hoke, Jr. She is survived by a loving daughter and son-in-law, Sandy and Jerry Eckard, of Conover; a son, Tim Herman and his wife, Andree, of Hickory; three grandchildren, Todd Eckard, of Hickory; Amy Matthews and her husband, Andy, of Conover, and Jason Herman and his wife, Lisa, of Conover; four great- grandchildren, Seth and Claudia Eckard, and Collin and Connor Matthews. The family will receive friends Monday, April 25, from 1 to 2:45 p.m. at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church. The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. with Pastor Wesley R. Frye officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, PO Box 579, Claremont, NC 28610.
