3140. Alvena Rebecca HUNSUCKER was born on 15 January 1915 in Catawba County, North Carolina. She died on 21 July 2008 at the age of 93 in Abernethy Laurels, Newton, North Carolina. She was buried in Oakwood Cemetery, Hickory, Catawba County, North Carolina. Her obituary appeared as follows: HICKORY - Alvena Hunsucker Deal, 93, passed away Monday, July 21, 2008, at Abernethy Laurels in Newton. Mrs. Deal was born June 15, 1915, in Catawba County to the late Jonas and Vertie Simmons Hunsucker. She was married to the late Albert Loretz Deal Jr. for 58 years and was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Freda Regan and Edith Gantt, and one brother, J.T. Hunsucker. Mrs. Deal is survived by her son, Dr. Albert Leonard Deal III and wife, Loretta Deal, of Lexington, Va.; a daughter, Rebecca Burgess and husband, Arthur, of Hickory; a grandson, Harry Burgess and wife, Jackie, of Carlsbad, N.M.; two granddaughters, Beth Taylor and husband, Zack, and Cathy Hitchcock and husband, Stephen, all of Hickory; three great-granddaughters, Jenna Burgess of Carlsbad, N.M., and Cate Taylor and Ella Brett Hitchcock of Hickory; three great-grandsons, Garron Burgess of Carlsbad, N.M., and David Taylor and Drew Hitchcock of Hickory; and two sisters, Frankie Bowman of Newton and Ernestine Reid of Hickory. Her main interests revolved around her family, entertaining, needlework, reading and gardening. She especially delighted in her great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 24, 2008, in Oakwood Cemetery, followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. in the Trinity Chapel at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. The Rev. Dr. Robert Shoffner will officiate. The family will receive friends at the church following the service. Memorials may be made to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, P.O.
