3141. Freda Lee HUNSUCKER was born on 1 December 1918. She died on 12 January 2007 at the age of 88 in Mayflower Retirement Center, Winter Park, Florida. She was buried in Oakwood Cemetery, Hickory, Catawba County, North Carolina. Her obituary appeared as follows: WINTER PARK, Fla. - Freda H. Regan, of Winter Park, Fla., died Jan. 12, 2007, at her home of the last 10 years, the Mayflower Retirement Center. She was born in Conover, N.C., on Dec. 1, 1918, to Jonas and Verdia Hunsucker. In 1938, she married John T. Regan of Hickory, N.C., joining many pioneering families of Catawba County, N.C. Freda and John lived in Hickory, where they started their family of five children and were active members of Corinth Evangelical and Reformed Church. In 1953, Freda and John moved to Jackson, Miss., where they were charter members of Briarwood Presbyterian Church. John's business brought them to Winter Park in 1960. At Winter Park Presbyterian Church, Freda became president and life member of the Women of the Church. After her children grew up, she found time to pursue a lifelong dream of writing. Her many stories of her early years were read and published locally, always delighting family and friends. Freda and John enjoyed traveling in their motorcoach throughout the U.S., Canada and Mexico; they also toured Europe a number of times. Survivors are two daughters and sons-in-law, Anne and Ed Maydrech of Canton, Miss., and Lee and Ron Mikell of Orlando, Fla.; three sons and a daughter-in-law, John and Wanda Regan of Jackson, Miss., Franklin Regan of Gainesville, Fla., and William Regan of Maitland, Fla.; sisters, Alvena Deal and Frankie Bowman of Newton, N.C., and Ernestine Steele Reid of Hickory, N.C.; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She was predeceased by her husband, John; brother, Jonas Theobold Hunsucker; and sister, Edith Gantt. A visitation will be held Tuesday, Jan. 16 at noon at Bass-smith Funeral Home in Hickory, N.C., followed by a graveside service at 1 p.m. in Oakwood Cemetery, Hickory.
