Margaret Bell CORDELL was born on 23 September 1924 in Newton, Catawba County, North Carolina.¹⁸⁸⁷ She died on 16 December 2003 at the age of 79 in Catawba Valley Medical Center, Hickory, Catawba County, North Carolina. She was buried in Conover City Cemetery, Conover, Catawba, North Carolina. Her obituary appeared as follows: CONOVER - Margaret Cordell Hefner, 79, of 707 Fourth Street, SW, died Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2003, at Catawba Valley Medical Center. Born Sept. 23, 1924, in Catawba County, she was the daughter of the late A. G. “Buck” Cordell and Pearl Mae Smith Cordell. She was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church and retired from Centel Telephone, where she was a service assistant and training instructor for operators. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Alisha Anne Hefner; two sisters, an infant and Millie Rosa Cordell; and two brothers, Hurshell Edward Cordell and Sherman Cordell. Survivors include her husband, Adrian Shipp Hefner of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Adrian Alan and Wanda Hefner of Hickory; a granddaughter, Allison H. Crouse and her husband, Lane, of Hickory. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 19, 2003, at Concordia Lutheran Church. The Revs. Donald Oldenburg and John Greig will officiate and burial will follow in Conover City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church, one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be made to Concordia Lutheran Church, 216 Fifth Ave., SE, Conover, N.C. 28613.
