He died on 30 December 2012 at the age of 87 in Catawba County, North Carolina. He was buried in Catawba Memorial Park, Hickory, Catawba County, NC. His obituary appeared as follows: HICKORY Worth A. Yount Jr., 87, of Hickory, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family, Sunday, Dec. 30, 2012. Born, Aug. 5, 1925, in Granite Falls, N.C., he was the son of the late Worth A. Yount Sr. and Mable Elmore Yount. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by an infant son, David Worth Yount. Worth served in the U.S. Navy, in World War II, from 1943 to 1946. He was one of the first 15 employees hired at GE, when the Hickory plant opened, in 1955. He retired from GE as a technical support engineer, after 32 years of service. He was an active member of Messiah Lutheran Church, where he served on the church council for several years. Worth's favorite pastime was spending time with his family, especially his three grandchildren. He was a lifelong hunter and fisherman, and liked being outdoors. Mr. Yount is survived by his wife of 63 years, Lucille Starnes Yount, of the home; a daughter, Anna Yount Alexander and husband, Chris, of Hickory; a sister, Jean Keener and husband, Huitt, of Granite Falls; three grandchildren, Matt Alexander, Jake Alexander, and Amy Alexander, all of Hickory. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013, at Messiah Lutheran Church with the Rev. Paul Christ officiating. Burial will follow at Catawba Memorial Park, with graveside military honors provided by American Legion Post 48. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church. Memorials may be made to Catawba Regional Hospice, 3975 Robinson Rd., Newton, NC 28658.
