Her obituary appeared as follows: HICKORY Lela Josephine Wike McCorkle, 92, of Hickory passed away Monday, Nov. 12, 2012, at Conover Nursing and Rehab surrounded by family and friends. Born Aug. 23, 1920, in Catawba County, she was the daughter of the Milas M. and Jessie Sigmon Wike. Lela was a member of Sandy Ridge Baptist Church, Hickory. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Kermit L. Wilson; second husband, Richard Boyce McCorkle; sister, Mabel Lake; and a brother, Willis Sigmon Wike. She is survived by two daughters, Sue Wilson Spencer and Donna Wilson Williams, both of Hickory; two grandsons, Mark Shook and wife, Ramona, Kelly Shook and wife, Wanda, all of Hickory; great grandson, Austin Shook, of Cali.; and two special friends, Freida Miller and Donna Cline. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, Nov.15, at 2 p.m., at Burke Mortuary Chapel, Newton, with Pastor Rodney Powe. Burial will follow at Mt. View Baptist Church Cemetery, Maiden.
