Alexander Samuel "Alex" BARRINGER952 was born on 12 January 1928 in Catawba County, North Carolina. He died on 20 May 2011 at the age of 83 in Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem, North Carolina. His obituary appeared as follows: Alex Barringer HICKORY Alex Samuel Barringer, 83, passed away Friday, May 20, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center after a brief illness. Alex was born January 12, 1928 in Catawba Co. to the late Hobart and Lillian Setzer Barringer. He was preceded in death by his two brothers Ernest Barringer and Glenn Barringer. Alex was a very active member of Faith Evangelical and Reformed UCC. He sang in the church choir for over 40 years. He also served on the Consistory and was past president in 1994 as well as other various church committees. He graduated from Catawba College. He was a member of the Hickory Optimist Club for over 30 years, having served as president in 1980. He started his own accounting practice in 1965 and retired in 1991. After retiring he did volunteer work and worked part-time. He was a member of the N.C. Society of Accountants and National Society of Accountants. Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Dorothy Reinhardt Barringer, of the home; a son, Tim Barringer and his wife, Judy, of Conover; four daughters Alice Barr-inger, of Huntersville; Sherrie Carroll and her husband Mike, of Toana, Va.; Dottie Ford and her husband, Randy, of Conover; and Denise Little and her husband, David, of Hickory; grandchildren, Jessica Carroll, Jennifer Carroll, Keely Ford, Evan Ford, Morgan Little; one step-granddaughter, Christy Kunes; step-great-grand-children, Courtney Deal, Camryn Deal, and Marcy Kunes; a sister Mary Kay Barringer, of Charlotte; and a brother Paul Barringer and his wife, Alma, of Conover. The family will receive friends Monday, May 23 from 2:45 to 3:45 p.m. at Hickory Funeral Home with funeral services to follow at 4 p.m. at Hickory Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Harry Griffin officiating. A private graveside memorial service will be held at a later date at Fairview Cemetery.
