Grover William SETZER⁹⁵², son of James Alfred SETZER and Minnie Katherine HERMAN, was born on 2 June 1935 in Catawba County, North Carolina. He died on 11 May 2011 at the age of 75 in Frye Regional Medical Center, Hickory, Catawba County, NC. His obituary appeared as follows: HICKORY Grover William Setzer, 75, passed away May 11, 2011, at Frye Regional Medical Center after a brief battle with lung cancer. Grover was born June 22, 1935, in Catawba County to the late James Alfred and Minnie Herman Setzer. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister, Catherine Cruse. Grover worked for Carolina Office equipment 43 years, most of those as service manager. He was instrumental in the company's startup in the late 50's and received many accolades during his employment. He was veteran of the Korean War. As a child, he attended Miller's Lutheran Church, where he was confirmed at a young age. Upon marriage, he and his family became members of Highland United Methodist Church, where he sang in the choir and managed the sound facilities. He was active in all phases of the church's activities, attending regular Sunday services, serving on the administrative council and other boards and commissions, including many years of service as liaison for the Cooperative Christian Ministry. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Linda Hawn Setzer; sons, William Setzer and Michael Setzer, with his wife, Elizabeth Rich Setzer; his granddaughter, Rylie Setzer, age three, all of Garner; five brothers and four sisters, James Set-zer and his wife, Lou, of Knoxville, Tenn.; Thomas Dermont Setzer and his partner, Debbie Travis; Lewis Setzer and his wife, Lala; Richard Setzer and his wife, Sherry; Robert Setzer and his wife, Gloria; Carrie Setzer West; Annie Setzer Huffman and her husband, J. Donald; Ruby Gail Setzer and Martha Jean (Jeannie) Bowman, all of Hickory; a brother-in-law, Phillip (Jinx) Hawn, of Marion, and his partner, Libby Dobson, and numerous nieces and nephews. Receiving of friends will be held Friday, May 13, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Highland United Methodist Church. A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 14, at 11 a.m. at Highland United Methodist Church, 1020 12th. Street Place, NE, Hickory, with the Rev. David Hobson officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Highland United Methodist Church, 1020 12th. St. Pl., NE, Hickory, NC 28601.
