4645. Lola Mae LOFTIN952 was born on 7 July 1919 in Catawba County, North Carolina. She died on 24 March 2011 at the age of 91 in Catawba County, North Carolina. Her obituary appeared as follows: NEWTON Lola Loftin Whitworth, 91, of Newton, passed away on Thursday, March 24, 2011. A native of Catawba County, she was the daughter of the late Charlie L. Loftin and Eva Setzer Loftin. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Aileen Brown, Ruby Hollar and Charlene Lail. She is survived by her husband of 75 years, Glenn H. Whitworth; children, Dane E. Whitworth and his wife, Karen, of Conover; Tanya W. Wilson and her husband, Michael, of Charlotte, and Timothy G. Whitworth, of Claremont; a sister, Eunice L. Blood, of Atlanta; grandchildren, Amanda J. Moose, Whitney W. Jones, Eric H. Whitworth, Colby R. Whitworth and Taylor M. Wilson; and three great-grandchildren. While her devoted husband served in WWII, Lola worked as a virtual "Rosie the Riveter," assembling airplanes in Akron, Ohio. Upon returning to Newton, she worked at and retired from Ridgeview Mills. A true "Proverbs 31" wife, Lola was a woman of noble character, working vigorously from dawn 'til dusk as a homemaker, seamstress, cook and gardner, providing plentifully for her family with the full confidence and respect of her loving husband. A Service of Remembrance will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 27, 2011, at Abernethy Memorial United Methodist Church in Newton with Rev. Jim Church officiating. Glenn Harrison WHITWORTH, son of James Edward WHITWORTH and Chloe Christine POPE, was born on 19 February 1918 in Gaston County, North Carolina. He died on 25 May 2012 at the age of 94 in Pallative Care & Hospice of Catawba Valley, Newton, North Carolina. His obituary appeared as follows: NEWTON Glenn Harrison Whitworth, 94, of Newton passed away Friday, May 25, 2012, at Palliative CareCenter and Hospice of Catawba Valley. Born Feb. 19, 1918 in Gaston County, he was the son of the late James Edward and Chloe Christine Pope Whitworth. Glenn served in the U.S. Army and was one of the last survivors of World War II in Catawba County. He was in the 4th Wave on Normandy Beach, served in the Battle of the Bulge and the Liberation of England. Mr. Whitworth worked as a machinist in the furniture industry. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 74 years, Lola Loftin Whitworth. Survivors include his children, Dane E. Whitworth and wife, Karen, of Newton, Tanya W. Wilson and husband, Michael, of Charlotte, and Timothy G. Whitworth, of Claremont; grandchildren, Amanda J. Moose, of Newton, Whitney W. Jones, of Kernersville, Eric H. Whitworth, of Charlotte, Colby R. Whitworth, of Glenview, Ill., Taylor M. Wilson, of Charlotte, and Brandon Travis, of Bethlehem; great-grandchildren, Zachary Moose, of Newton, Jonathan Jones, of Kernersville, Hannah Grace Moose, of Newton, Mason Jones, of Kernersville, and Briley Travis of Bethlehem. A Service of Remembrance will be held Monday, May 28, at 2 p.m. at Abernethy Memorial United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jim Church officiating. The family will receive friends after the service.
