Marion Walter "Tup" KANIPE was born on 22 March 1922 in Catawba County, North Carolina.729,2706 He died on 23 December 2002 at the age of 80 in Brian Center, Viewmont, Catawba County, North Carolina. He was buried in St. John's Lutheran Church (MO Synod) Cemetery, Conover, Catawba County, NC. His obituary appeared as follows: Marion Walter “Tup” Kanipe, 80, of Brian Center Viewmont, formerly of Rock Barn Road, Claremont, died December 23, 2002 at Brian Center Viewmont. Born March 22, 1922 in Catawba County, he was the son of the late Amsey Walter Kanipe and Fannie Luetta Hefner Kanipe. He had worked as an equipment operator and retired from Eckard Construction Company and was a former employee of Herman Sipe Construction Company. He was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Claremont. Although handicapped and couldn’t serve in military service, he served in civil service in 1942 as an aircraft spotter for the United States Forest Service in San Diego County, California. Marion was also a knowledgeable rock hound and was in jewelry making. He also loved trapping and won several awards for his work. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Genelta Catherine Poole. Survivors include: Brothers: John Alvin Kanipe of Newton, Lawrence Edward Kanipe of Lenoir. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 27, 2002 at Drum Funeral Home Chapel in Conover. Rev. Scott Bollinger will officiate and burial will follow at St. John’s Lutheran Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 26, 2002 at Drum Funeral Home Chapel in Conover.
