Ruth BARGER was born on 20 September 1921 in Catawba County, North Carolina. He/she died on 2 August 2011 at the age of 89 in Frye Regional Medical Center, Hickory, Catawba County, NC. He/she was buried in St. Stephen's Lutheran Church Cemetery, Hickory, NC. His/her obituary appeared as follows: HICKORY Ruth Barger Starnes, 89, passed away Monday, Aug. 2, 2011, at Frye Regional Medical Center after a brief illness. Ruth was born Sept. 20, 1921, in Catawba County to the late Ellis Lafayette and Mary Agnes Townsend Barger. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Zell Hubert Starnes; her son, Eddy Starnes; her sisters, Beulah Cline, Lois Simmons and Helen Propst; and her brothers, John Barger and Ralph Barger. She was a lifelong member of St. Stephens Lutheran Church, ELCA and retired from Catawba Paper Box. Surviving are a son, Terry Hubert Starnes and his wife, Joann, of Vale; her grand-daughters, Tina Starnes Heffner and her husband, Dennis, of Vale, and Vicky Starnes Zannato and her husband, Jeremy, of Hickory; her grandsons, Clay Hubert Starnes and his wife, Denise, of Vale, and Brent Starnes of Hickory; her great grand-daughters, Miranda and Rachel Starnes, of Vale; her great-grandsons, Zachary Heffner and his wife, Heather, of Cherry-ville; Benjamin, Justin and Noah Heffner, all of Vale; Ethan and Nathan Starnes of Hickory, and Trent Zannato of Hickory; her daughter-in-law, Geraldine Starnes of Hickory; her sisters, Mary Bolick, of Bethlehem; Margaret Hefner of Hickory and Edith Icard and her husband, Kenneth, of Hickory; her brothers, Claude Barger and his wife, Lucille, and George Barger and his wife, Peggy, both of Hickory, and a number of nieces and nephews. Services will be held Thursday, Aug. 4, at 3 p.m. at St. Stephens Lutheran Church, ELCA with Rev. Richard Hites officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Helen Frances BARGER was born on 19 May 1940 in Catawba County, North Carolina. She died on 19 July 2008 at the age of 68 in Pallative Care & Hospice of Catawba Valley, Newton, North Carolina. She was buried in St. Stephen's Lutheran Church Cemetery, Hickory, NC. Her obituary appeared as follows: HICKORY - Helen Frances Barger Propst, 68, passed away Saturday, July 19, 2008, at Palliative CareCenter & Hospice of Catawba Valley following a brief illness. Helen was born May 19, 1940, in Catawba County to the late Ellis L. and Mae Smith Barger. In addition to her parents, she also was preceded in death by two sisters, Lois Simmons and Beulah Cline; and two brothers, Ralph and John Barger. Helen retired from Thomasville Furniture Co., and later was a caregiver for Unifour Nursing, where she touched many of her patients' lives and hearts. Surviving are her four sisters, Edith Icard, Ruth Starnes, and Margaret Hefner, all of Hickory, and Mary Bolick of Taylorsville; two brothers, Claude Barger and George Barger of Hickory; and she was specially fond of her many nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 22, at St. Stephens Lutheran Church ELCA, with the Rev. Ralph Eckard and David Lohr officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery The family will receive friends Tuesday from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m. in the chapel at St. Stephens Lutheran Church ELCA.
