Her obituary appeared as follows: CONOVER - Lorena Simmons Hunsucker, 91, of Rock Barn Road, Conover, died Friday, March 17, 2006, at Abernethy Laurels in Newton. Born Sept. 29, 1914, in Catawba County, she was a daughter of the late James Leroy and Cora Brady Simmons. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, David C. Elliott Jr.; her second husband, Fred Monroe Hunsucker; a son, James David Elliott; and two sisters, Mary Emily Isenhour and Bessie Simmons. Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Ernest Elliott and wife, Linda, of Conover, Fred Allen Hunsucker and wife, Angie, of Birmingham, Ala., and Mackie Hunsucker and wife, Susan, of Newton; 10 grandchildren, Melia Elliott Coffey and husband, Cliff, of Greenville, James Elliott and wife, Alicia, of Newton, Eddie Elliott of Hickory, Kristi Hunsucker Adams and husband, James Adams Jr., of Wake Forest, Kelly Marie Hunsucker of Wake Forest, A.J. Hunsucker, Alexandra Parks Hunsucker and Victoria Brady Hunsucker, all of Birmingham, Ala., Emily Hunsucker of Charlotte and Paul Hunsucker of Raleigh; eight great-grandchildren; nephew, Jerry Isenhour of Hickory; niece, Linda Isenhour of Conover; a number of other nieces and nephews; and two cousins, Mabel Brady and Dot Workman of Conover. A Service of Remembrance will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, March 20, 2006, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Conover. The Revs. Scott Johnson and Anton Lagoutine will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 tonight, Sunday, at Drum Funeral Home. Ernest Dean ELLIOTT was born on 2 October 1939 in Catawba County, North Carolina. He died as a result of an automobile accident on 24 November 2006 at the age of 67 in Roanoke Rapids, Northampton County, NC. He was buried in St. John's Lutheran Church (MO Synod) Cemetery, Conover, Catawba County, NC. His obituary appeared as follows: CONOVER - Ernest Dean Elliott, 67, of Conover, died in Roanoke Rapids in Halifax County as a result of an automobile accident Friday afternoon, Nov. 24, 2006. Born Oct. 2, 1939, in Catawba County, he was the son of the late David Cameron Elliott Jr. and Lorena Simmons Elliott Hunsucker. He retired from furniture building. He loved wildlife and hunting and belonged to Beaver Pond Hunting Club. As a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, he served in the Tape Ministry to shut-ins for many years and was formerly an elder and a deacon. He loved sharing Christ with his grandchildren and telling them about heaven. Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Linda Mingus Elliott of the home; two sons and a daughter-in-law, James Dean Elliott and Alicia of Newton and Edward Cameron Elliott of Hickory; a daughter and son-in-law, Melia Elliott Coffey and Cliff of Greenville, N.C.; seven grandchildren, Adam Elliott and wife, Hilary, of Gastonia, Chelsea Elliott of Hickory, Sophia Coffey, Greyson Coffey and Olivia-Grace Coffey, all of Greenville, N.C., and Anna Elliott and James William Elliott, both of Newton; one great-granddaughter, Payton Elliott of Gastonia; two brothers, Fred Allen Hunsucker and wife, Angie, of Birmingham, Ala., and William Mack Hunsucker and wife, Susan, of Newton; and several nieces and nephews. Fred Monroe HUNSUCKER, son of William Matthew HUNSUCKER and Bessie Anna CARPENTER, was born on 17 April 1913 in Catawba County, North Carolina. He died on 4 January 2003 at the age of 89 in Catawba Valley Medical Center, Hickory, Catawba County, North Carolina. He was buried in St. John's Lutheran Church (MO Synod) Cemetery, Conover, Catawba County, NC. His obituary appeared as follows: Mr. Fred Monroe Hunsucker, age 89, of 1508 Rock Barn Road, Conover, NC, passed away Saturday, January 04, 2003, at the Catawba Valley Medical Center in Hickory, NC. Born April 17, 1913 in Catawba County, he was the son of the late William Matthew and Bessie Anna Pope Hunsucker. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Conover, NC, and had retired from the furniture industry. He was also a veteran of the US Army, having served in the 68th Tank Battalion in Europe during World War II. During his service in the military, he received the European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon, three Bronze Battle Stars, two Purple Hearts and Over Seas Bars. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a step-son, James David Elliott, brother, Ed Hunsucker, half-brothers, Roscoe Pope and Carlos Pope, and half-sisters, Lea Pope Brown, Maude Pope Bolick, Ula Pope Hoke, Jenny Pope Brown, and Eva Pope Shook.
